The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 最后那部分给我整感动了。忽然就感到一种巨大的孤独压迫着你。人的生命是脆弱而短暂的。把自己带入到那个机器人身份，看着自己熟悉的人离开，放眼望去，只剩下你，还有一条狗，从此连个说话的人都没有。
故事很励志温馨，没有过分煽情，一切都恰到好处。对末世的描绘以及人性的险恶，都为影片增色不少。

那只蝴蝶像是阿甘的羽毛。汤姆汉克斯老成了施瓦辛格的样子。
很难挑的出什么毛病，硬要说的话只能说是路上的艰辛少了，导致结构两头重中间轻，但也不是硬伤，这个机器人虽然是个铁罐头，但是却能做到表情非常生动，很难得。感谢汉克斯一直奉献好片，不像其他一些影帝年纪大了专出烂片。
科幻片，其实是另一版本的《荒岛余生》。故事密度不足，独角戏，只靠汉克斯演技来支撑。机器人的设置不错，简陋、笨拙，却又在努力模仿学习。对于它来说，人充满了矛盾，让它备感困惑。而它最需要理解的，则是信任一词。
听到悬索在风中歌唱 这才是一种体验
虽然每次看末世片的时候第一想法是一定要死在末世前以及毁灭吧累了，但这部真的很好哭。虽然吧我们人类真的又自私又狂妄，永远不可能和平共处永远不可能互相体谅，但如果真的有一天末世了物种更替了，希望下一个物种还是能记得我们久一点，因为我们也曾创造过如此绚烂的文明，因为我们也曾仰望星空幻想星际宇宙。
其他评论里也指出了，这是一部很简单，甚至很俗套的电影，但是足够立体的人物和表演，外加精湛的机器人特效让整部片子显得十分有心，在俗套之余仍能打动许多人，讲好那个看似简单的故事。

作为一部末日公路科幻电影，我了解每个套路，但都沉浸其中不可自拔，不愿结束不想看结尾。汤姆·汉克斯真稳，米导演真稳，克编剧真稳！不过如果goodyear 狗狗也走了，jeff 会怎样生活呢？抱抱姐夫。
—末日题材往往太重末日，轻情感。此片有点《我是传奇》和《机器人总动员》的感观。

一开始以为会很普通，因为感觉一切都像是末日大片，跨种族友情，蒸汽朋克的公路电影的缝合怪。但是怎么说呢，他烹饪的方式还是很让人舒服，主要塑造的是两个戏，外界的坏人是一个若隐若现的麦格芬，隐去的很巧妙。没办法，汤姆汉克斯看到蝴蝶的那一幕还是感动了，带两年了口罩已经强迫症洗手的我，无法不代入。

3.5，正宗好莱坞工业味儿。片名又译《末日求生：我和我的机器人儿子》、《极客老处男的逆袭之我和我自己生了一个儿子》、《阿宅日记：死都不社交》、《未来社会观察：人不如狗》，以及Kevin Kelly下本书的灵感《科技要什么2：情感篇》。
疫情之下断断续续看汤姆•汉克斯《芬奇》，这是他本人《荒岛余生》的世界末日版，同样是一个人支撑了一部电影。世界只剩一人，支撑一个人活下去的是求生的本能、希望、责任感和爱，人类对小狗的爱，机器人对小狗的爱（对动物的爱，机器的爱映射的其实是人间的爱），世界终究还是有美好，阳光空气和自由都很好。伤感的是美好刚刚到来，人生有未竟之愿，遗憾之事，芬奇就离开了世界，如同一句歌词：我在刚开始的瞬间毁灭。毕竟意难平。
